E o que é o Balboa? Fecha os olhos e deixa-te levar pela elegância de um estilo intimista e de uma postura elegante, em que a criatividade dos dançarinos não ocupa grande espaço na pista de dança, mas exprime-se antes em  jogos complexos e empolgantes de pernas e pés.

Estas características surgiram precisamente da necessária adaptação às lotadas pistas de dança da Califórnia da década de 1940. É que, ao som da música das Big Band, os dançarinos queriam dançar swing, mas os espaços tinham de ser mais reduzidos do que aqueles que danças como o Lindy Hop exigiam. E assim nasceu a nova modalidade que continua hoje a dar movimento e cor às danças vintage.

Quanto ao nome desta dança social: Deve-se à Península de Balboa na Califórnia, de onde é originária.

And what is Balboa? Close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the elegance of an intimate style and an elegant posture, in which the creativity of the dancers does not occupy much space on the dance floor, but rather expresses itself in complex and exciting games of legs and feet.

These characteristics arose precisely from the necessary adaptation to the crowded dance floors of California in the forties. Dancers wanted to dance  the sound of Big Band music, but the space used bu the dancers  had to be smaller than those that dance like the Lindy Hop demanded. And so was born the new modality that continues today to give movement and color to vintage dances.

As for the name of this social dance: It is due to the Balboa Peninsula in California, where it originates.
